St. Michael’s College, Cherthala, is all set to commence its year-long Golden jubilee Celebrations on the 10th of February, 2017, at 2:30 p. m. The inauguration of the celebrations will be done by the Honourable Minister of Kerala for Education Prof. C. Raveendranath in the presence of the Patron of the college and President of the function His Excellency Rt. Rev. Dr. Stephen Athipozhiyil, Bishop of Alleppey, and many other dignitaries. The college which was established on the 19th of June, 1967, has been constantly striving for the uplift of the marginalised and the under-privileged since its inception. From a very humble beginning, St. Michael’s has now transformed itself into a NAAC Re-accredited ‘A’ Grade Post Graduate College. The year-long celebrations will witness a slew of activities hosted on and out of the campus. A golden jubilee memorial sports complex, international and national seminars, national level exhibition, international book fair, state level inter-collegiate and inter-school arts and sports galas, mega job fair, alumni fest, state level power lifting competition are the highlights of the celebrations. Social outreach programmes have also been put on the anvil to make the celebrations meaningful and useful to the society. The various organisations, clubs and associations functioning in the college have chalked out programmes that reiterate the developmental notions recorded by the institution as its vision and mission. ‘Home for the Homeless’, ‘Mangalya Nidhi’, Free Medical and Health Check-up Camps, Social Awareness Classes, Women Entrepreneurial Development Programmes are some among them. The inaugural function will be attended by the Honourable Minister of Kerala for Food and Civil Supplies Sri. P. Thilothaman, who is also a former student of the college, Member of Parliament Sri. K. C. Venugopal, Aroor M. L. A. Sri. A. M. Arif, and Kerala University College Development Director Dr. M. Jayaprakash. A vehicle rally proclaiming the inauguration of the celebrations will be taken out from Mount Carmel Cathedral to Andhakaranazhy and from Andhakaranazhy to Cherthala and finally from Cherthala to the college on the 9th of February, 2017.
