"Quami Ekta Week" - 19-11-2014 to 25-11-2014

"Quami Ekta Week" is observed every year from 19th to 25th November throughout the Country. The objective of the programme is to foster the spirit of Patriotism, National Integration and Communal Harmony. The celebrations of the week include hoisting National Flag, convening Public Meetings, taking the Pledge of National Integration, holding debates, discussions, etc. NSS Unit of St. Michael’s College decided to participate in the ‘Quami Ekta Week’ and as part of it, various programmes were organised by the unit.

 

19thNovernber 2014, Wednesday- National Integration and Communal Harmony Day

II B. A. Economics students organised a National Integration and Communal Harmony meeting at 1.30 pm on 19th November, 2014 at the college seminar hall. The meeting was chaired by NSS Programme Officer Prof. Pratheesh. NSS Volunteer Secretery Akhil welcomed the gathering. Sreekkuttan P.M.  read out the national integration and communal harmoney peldge. After the meeting a dramatisation of ‘Transfer of Power and Partition of India’ was staged.

21 November, 2014, Friday – Linguistic Harmony Day

A special literary function, 'Kavi Sammelan' (Poet's Conference) was organised by NSS on 21st November, 2014, at 3.30 p. m. at College Seminar Hall. The function was the result of the collective efforts taken by the Departments of Malyalam, Hindi and English and the Book Club of St. Michael’s College. Prof. P. Pratheesh, NSS Programme Officer, St. Michael’s College, Cherthala welcomed the gathering. Dr. Neelakandan Namboothiri, Prof. Sam Johnson, Prof. Emile, Prof. Evlin and Madam Patritica Robin, Librarian, were also present at the meeting.  It was attended by 50 selected representatives from first year degree classes. Prof. Pratheesh made a detailed description about the programme and ensured the live participation of the audience. Madam Patritica Robin, College Librarian, was the first to present a poem. She chose one among the best from Kamala Das’ oeuvre “NANI” . It was followed by the presentations done by Augustine Benevantoor, Malavika, Annie Mendez, Meera Samson, Chichu Raju, Bineesha Baby, Riya Tresa and Bivin Dev.  All the poems were concentrated on the theme of ‘love’. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

24 November, 2014, Monday- Women's Day

          As part of "Quami Ekta Week", 24th November, is observed as Women’s Day. It is the time to remind the importance of women in Indian society and their role in development of nation building. An ‘Open Forum’ was jointly organised by NSS and Women’s Cell at 3.30 pm at college seminar hall. Dr. M. A. Florence delivered the welcome speech. Prof. P. Pratheesh presented the theme of the dicsussion and acted as the moderator of the session. Prof. Minnu Mathew and Prof. Robin George marked their presence. Bhagyaprabha of I BSc Chemistry, Riya Tresa of I B A Economics, Nishad of I B Voc and Samson Jacob of I B A English actively participated in the discussion and made valuable comments.
